Hi There,
I'm just wondering is there is anyone on these boards who has relieved themselves of their depression using alternative/naturopathic remedies like accupuncture, Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese herbs, yoga, meditation and fish oils.
I'd be interested to read the experience of others who have used these methods to success and recovery. I've been diagnosed with depression and tried Celexa with very negative results and I'm thinking about using these others natural methods without messing up my brain chemistry.
Thanx,
Aurora

HI, I have a friend who had quite severe depression she had acupuncture and treatment with chinese herbals. It made a difference and she became alot better. But it was very costly and in the end she felt she was being milked out of money, and the benefit was not there anymore.
She switched to fish oil ,sjw and saffron and is much better. But I do believe ,we are like explorers in unchartered waters and it is a matter of trial and error. There are loads of alternatives and you just need to keep trying until you find the right solution for yourself.

Hafs,
I tried out your saffron milk remedy, just warmed up a cup of milk, a few threads of Spanish saffron (the best kind really) with a teaspoon of honey and, no joke I slept like a baby. I have not had a deep, restful sleep like this is ages.
How did you find out about saffron?
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to continue this remedy and see where it takes me.
BTW, there are some poses in yoga which apparently also help mood swings and disorders - they stimulate the thyroid gland and brain so over time, the "right" hormones and biochemicals begin kicking in (plus it's physically good for you). Downward dog, triangle, pyramid and half-moon poses in particular are very, very helpful. Mind you you should learn the postures properly with a certified yoga instructor - once you learn them, you have to learn to hold them a few seconds longer each day for up to a maximum of 5 minutes if you're super-advanced (I'm only at two minutes).
For anyone here that's interested there are many, many websites out there on how specific yoga poses also stimulate certain hormones, glands and organs in the body.
Cheers,
Aurora

Hi Hafs,
The saffron milk is indeed working, in fact now I need to make my cup of warmed saffron milk before going to bed, or else I don't sleep well. It's amazing really what it has done for my sleep. I'm also better able to regulate my moods during the day as a result of getting sound sleep. So I have to say that this saffron milk remedy as well as my regular yoga practise, I'll be complementing it with accupuncture shortly.
Thanks again Hafs,
