Hi!

I took this supposedly highest available EPA 1000 fish oil for a month at first with sjw.
Had a break of about a month then started again. I'm now into my second consecutive month of usage. Also I stopped taking sjw for my GAD and dysthymia because it wasn't enough. Now I'm taking reboxetine and have been for 1 month. It seems to be having some positive effects.

What I am wondering is how much effect I might expect to notice from the fish oil? It is pricey at about £35 a month, so I want to know that I'm getting something from it!

Can anyone share their experiences?

Cheers!

Oscar

Your fish oil is very expensive first vitality and higher nature are a lot cheaper.
Infact they are both less then half price to yours and higher nature offers progressive discounts while first vitality offers discounts for multiple buys .I would shop around.

do a search for lemon fish oil.
Oh ,and your epa isnt the highest available infact higher nature has 1500 while 1stvitalty have various up to 2300 epa.
I found the fish oil very helpful and i would definately recommend you to continue using it.
I have used both brands and found them to be of a good quality.
Have you thought of trying saffron for your gad?

Thanks hafs,

that stuff looks better value for money. Still, it does seem expensive to me.
I never tried saffron, is it just the same kind you use for cooking?

Its the same saffron you use for cooking.I've used most brands but found the spanish to be the best. The Iranian is good but not always as portent and quality differs between suppliers.
I have personally recommended saffron to alot of people with various types of depression incl. gad and I have to say they all have returned to thank me.

i clicked on the above link and, as i suspected, this brand has quite a high level of DHA. I'm assuming that the fish oil oscar tried/ is trying is pure EPA only, and contains NO DHA. in the context of depression, studies have shown that it is not so much the amount of EPA present but the ratio of EPA to DHA that is important. for treating depression, the DHA content of fish oil seems to negate (to an extent) the action of EPA- EPA being the component which appears to have the main anti-depressent effect (helps brain cell polarity). this is no doubt why oscar's original choice is twice the price as the two brands you suggested; it could be argued there is a situation of false economy attached to such cheaper brands.

Hi Ratboy,
I have found all the information a bit confusing for High Grade Fish Oil for depression.
I have read also that the EPA/DHA ratio is significant but was under the impression that a higher EPA value is most important.
Also the different brands are misleading in the amounts they claim to have being either for the RDA (rec. daily amount) or per capsule. One brand might have a higher concentration per capsule but you still pay more for a RDA of less EPA than another.

I gave the brand reccomended by hafs a go and am now taking twice the amount of pills with a higher daily EPA intake at a slightly lower price.
The EPA/DHA ratio is about 3:1 I think and I've read a research paper that says this is a good ratio for treating depression.
