Hi, Just wanted to post and say that I received my first bottle of 5-HTP today. I ordered it to help with depression, anxiety, and Panic attacks. They were getting so bad I didnt want to leave my home and I could hardly sleep at night. I went searching for a natural remedy, I couldnt take that feeling of fighting back tears and the knot in the pitt of my stomach any more. I am going thru Peri-Menopause for 2 years now and feel my symptoms are directly related to that as iI have only begun having them in the last year. I am not taking any prescription medication, and needed some natural help desperately.
I discovered 5-HTP was being used with success by many people and I ordered mine off the net from a company I trust for quality Herbal suppliments. I received my order today and could not wait to try them. I took them right after breakfast, so not on an empty stomach as some advised, but within 20 minutes I could, without a doubt feel the difference. My head did feel a little buzzy, but clearer in my thinking. I have NO negative feelings today, no knot in my stomach, no tears. I have laughed and felt like there is hope again for the first time in about a year. I also feel like I have motivation to create again, something I use to do everyday of my life.
I will post again and let everyone know how I am doing in a week and beyond. I am taking a 100 mg capsule and will do that once a day for a week and see how that goes. Does anyone have any suggestions for me, is the 100 mg dose once a day too much to start with? Should I re-order 50 mg capsules? After reading the posts here I was wondering if I should have started with 50 mg and worked my way up to 100 mg? I dont want to overdo something that can be this helpful. Any thoughts or suggestions for a new person is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all the posts and advice on this forum, it has really helped me a lot, I kind of wish I had found this forum before I ordered...lol
I tried St Johns Wort a few months ago and it kind of made me nauseus so I stopped taking it.

Hi Vicky

I've just gome through perimenopause. Was advised by my nutritionist to take 100mg 5HTP per day, at lunchtime, with some carbohydrate eg an apple.

It has helped enormously and I have had no side effects whatsoever taking that amount per day.

Hope 5HTP helps you too, as it has certainly helped me. I didn't get on with SJW at all but 5HTP has been brilliant.

Best wishes. Hope it does for you all you hope it will.

Thank you Joanie,
I appreciate the encouragement, it is helpful to know it helped you for the same reasons I am taking it,
I usually have an apple for lunch, so I will start taking it at that time.
Thank you again for shareing,
Vicky

Hi again Vicky

Just to clarify - I was told it's better to have the 5HTP IN BETWEEN meals around lunchtime, but with an apple or some other carbohydrate. My understanding is that it works better when you don't take it with protein. I usually leave at least an hour from a meal before taking my 5HTP.

Like you I felt the beneficial effects almost straightaway but it gets even better cumalatively.

Joanie,
Thanks for clarifying, I am so new to this and want to give it the best chance possible to work. I still feel good this afternoon, the pressure in my head has gone now, and none of the negative feelings have returned. I have hope again that I will be able to function normally in the world soon. It is good to know it only gets better with time. I am actually smiling today, what a great feeling.
Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Vicky,
I do not take 5-HTP, but I have had a similar experience with SJW which has been great for getting rid of my depression. For me, the SJW worked within days and I too was feeling pretty happy to be smiling again. I am going to try taking 5-HTP after my next paycheck to see if it perhaps works better than SJW for me, because I too feel nauseous some days from SJW. Anyways, I wish you continued success with 5-HTP and look forward to trying it myself.
