I need help" , Thu 8 Nov 08:08<HR SIZE=1> I took prozac a couple of years ago and had the same side effects that I have with SJW. The effect is that I cannot take two sips of alcohol without feeling dizzy, and horrible. My eyesite actually gets jumpy or something and cannot focus. It's awful because I like an occasional glass of wine. This weekend I'm attending a wedding and would like to enjoy a small amount of alcohol. Any suggestions? Mabey it's the kind of SWJ or something. Anyway, before I end I should tell you my Dr. Years ago swithched me to Zoloft and the drinking problem ended. Now I don't have health insureance to take the Zoloft that I prefer so I take SJW and I have this problem again. Does anyone else?

If SJW does interfere with birth control, and birth control intensifies the effects of alcohol, it seems to me that they all might be metabolized by the same cytochrome enzyme (I believe that is the lingo). It's a thought.

I was put on Zoloft at age 30 after the birth of my second child because I felt agitated and angry. (Postpartum??) During my long sobriety I attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings consistently and worked with a sponsor. However, within months of being on Zoloft, I had overwhelming cravings for alcohol and eventually relapsed. I have now been unable to stay sober for more than a few months during the past 4 years. My drinking is extreme binging sometimes once a week, sometimes once a month, very spread out and sporadic. I just found an article on the internet entitled "Alcohol Cravings Induced via Increased Serotonin" by Ann Blake Tracy, Director, ICFDA that might be helpful to someone. Both of our marriages dissolved within one year of taking zoloft, and both of us were married to long term recovering alcoholics. I am not going to SLOWLY reduce my zoloft intake and hope to eliminate it completely within 8 weeks - NEVER STOP TAKING IT ALL TOGETHER! It is important to slowly reduce. I am not consulting my doctor about this but trusting my body and the information I have gained. Please read the article above. I will be amazed and relieved if removing the Zoloft from my life makes it easier to stay sober. One note - I have never stopped going to meetings or working the steps, etc - in any way - during my sobriety or during my relapses.

I had written in here the other day that the alcohol sensitivity thing wasn't affecting me, well, I was wrong. because last nite I had 2 beers, and I had eaten before I began drinking them, and the affect was quite strange. I was more schnockered than I have ever been before on 2 beers. I was giggling around the house acting like a silly little teenager and driving my husband crazy. I wanted a couple beers to relax me and knock me out from having a long day of mid-terms at school and meetings at work; this did not happen! it was almost as if I had 2x the amt of alcohol, I don't act this goofy until I've had 4-6 beers. it was crazy! I could hardly walk straight and was running into walls in my hallway and whatnot. I also felt somewhat dizzy too! I only take 1 SJW pill/day which isn't very much, so I was surprised about this sensitivity to alcohol. I don't know what to tell you, but maybe just have 1 glass of wine or 1 drink of some kind, if alcohol will affect us like this when taking SJW. and of course make sure you eat a HUGE meal before you begin sipping...this always seems to help me feel the effects less. hope this helps, but I'm in the same boat as you! good luck! *Katlover*

When the depression hit me, I noticed that my ****tail was enjoyable but after the effect wore off, I was very negative, felt guilt feelings and was very insecure. So, I cut out the daily ****tail. I've been on sjw for about 3/4 weeks. I do feel better. I felt like having a small drink yesterday. An hour later, I was negative with strong guilt feelings. I did not like the feeling. I'm inclined to think that my drinking days are over, at least for awhile.

I am sort of getting used to the effect that SJW has when mixed w/ alcohol. I had 2 beers, two nites in a row, then 2 glasses of wine last nite, and 1 tonite. I am getting used to the weird feeling, and know that I just don't want to overdo it at all and won't have any more than 3 drinks at a time. but, I do think that I am done drinkin for the weekend, enuf is enuf! need to hit the gym and get my weekend boozin' weight off now!
