I actually bought it quite some time ago, but the conventional treatment for my depression *seemed* to be working, so I decided to stick with what I knew.
Last 6 months or so, Prozac 20mg has not been working at all for me. So I decided I didn't want to start on the "merry go round" of different drugs for my depression, Venlafaxine worked great - but the effect didn't last. Prozac at lease keeps me reasonably stable.
The difference in my ability to cope with life and my feeling of hope and ability to wake up without dreading the day ahead is AMAZING !! From day one !! The books say it doesn't take effect until 6 weeks - but for me it started straight away. I know they say it's "placebo effect" but I can't believe this, because the misery has lasted so long, also when one day I stopped taking it (lost my bottle of tincture) I "relapsed" in my depression, found it again and feel that I am coming "up" again.
I wasn't able to get an appointment to speak to my doctor before I made the decision, but went in "with my eyes" open, I knew all about SJW, possible side effects, risk of relapse after stopping taking Prozac and realised I was taking a risk by not getting my doctor's approval before switching.
But my "experiment" is paying off handsomely, because instead of a relapse after stopping Prozac, I feel better than ever - stopped taking the Valerian or Kava Kava extract I've been taking regularly for last month or so. Can't help wondering if the Prozac was causing or aggravating the severe anxiety I've been feeling recently.
For me, trying St John's Wort, has been the BEST decision I have made, and I am thrilled. And - according to the "officials" I'm meant to be relapsing into depression (it's quite the opposite!) and certainly not experiencing an improvement in my depression - hence my suspicion about the Prozac effect on me.
By the way, I have been on Prozac on and off for about 5 years, first spell was very, very effective, recent treatments were very effective, but recently (last year) Prozac at 20mg just not working well at all, for a while I went up to 40mg - but I got a bit "racing" in my mind - feeling good, but always thinking, always planning, wearing me out !!
Just sharing my experiences, but if you can explain my wonderful experience (ie. working really quickly) I'd be interested in your comments. I know they haven't identified all the compounds in SJW - maybe I'm benefiting from one of these ones??
Take care, everyone. Hope many of you have great - or even good - experiences with SJW.

Kind Regards,
Jay
