hi. i've read from another place that therapeutic doses of cod liver oil has been very successful at treating all forms of depression even major and biopolar. The doses they talk about are 1500 mg epa and 500 dha.Thats around 15 to 20 of the normal 1000mg cod liver oil capsuls since they contain no more then 100 mg epa 100mg dha on average each. I've found a concentrated pollutant free cod liver oil and have ordered it.I also want to try 5htp, rhodiola rosea ,and gotu kola. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

Hi Hafs-
When I was researching fish oil products on the net, I read repeatedly that cod liver oil is not the best option, particularly at high doses. The only problem is, it was many months ago, and I have forgotten what the reason was. I vaguely remember that it was something like cod liver oil contains naturally high amounts of vitamin A or maybe it was vitamin D or E. I can't remember. And that if you take cod liver oil in high amounts, the substance in questions builds up to undesirable levels.
I suspect you will be safer taking a general "fish oil" product, one with high EPA and DHA and, yes, tested for pollutants/contaminants. I'm sorry that I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember reading many warnings about taking too much cod liver oil rather than regular fish oil (which is usually made from fish like sardines, mackeral, salmon, and others).
Perhaps someone else knows the specifics. Hope that helps.

Hi there I have been doing research along the same lines...these are the best ones that I have found.....PureEPA which contain 1000mg of EPA oil. You can have a look at them on www.healthyandessential.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=67 (http://www.healthyandessential.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=67) I'm not sure where you are in the world but they're worth having a look at even if it to set a benchmark for finding others and although they are expensive the other products in the range have been featured in various press releases to great acclaim. I am not affiliated to this company at all, I know about them as I give my 10 year old their EPA capsules for children and am about to start my 3 year old on them too.
Hope you find this useful

I have discovered that by far the best ones appear to be morEPA smart fats. You would need to take 3 a day to achieve the 1500mg dose but they seem to be the best ones. The cheapest place I have found to buy them is actually through 1st vitality's website (www.firstvitality.com (http://www.firstvitality.com)) as they do a bulk buying discount too. The ones that I found before I have since noticed that you need to take 2 of them to get the 1000mg dose and the price just doesn't compare.
Hope this makes sense and helps
