I have suffered bouts of depression/anxiety a few times in my life (the last, about 7 years ago, was treated with Seroxat - I believe it's called Zoloft elsewhere). When I began to feel bad earlier this summer, I decided to give SJW a try as I'd heard of its reputation. I started with one a day of a mostly powder brand, but after a couple of weeks with no improvement, (and as I'm now a busy Mom of three I can't afford to slip down too far) I decided to see the Doctor.
Unfortunately the Dr I had to see has a reputation for lack of sympathy, but that didn't prepare me for her attitude. When I told her how bad I'd been feeling, she asked me no questions but stated (and I quote) "Well you have three choices - swallow down the antidepressants, get some counselling or put up with it." I was stunned, especially as she was already writing the prescription for Seroxat as she spoke. Rather foolishly I mentioned that I was taking SJW as I'd read that it can interact with other meds and antidepressants. She looked at me pretty scornfully and said "Where on earth did you get that from?"
Later, and still pretty angry, I phoned the pharmacist who told me categorically that SJW SHOULD be taken seriously and DOES interact with other drugs. I then phoned another Dr at the same practice, who agreed with the pharmacist but told me to take the Seroxat as SJW "May have side efects, for instance it was noticed that cows eating it in the fields suffered from sunburn."(!)
To cut a very long story short, I decided to buy a better brand of SJW and increase my dose. I am still not great, but much better, though I'm still experimenting. I would appreciate some professional guidance, but the guy in my local health food shop is very good, and of course I have this site too! (thanks for this, Kelly)
I apologise for the length of this letter, but I was wondering has anyone else experienced any hostility/misinformation from
the medical profession towards SJW?

So I decided it was time to see if I was cured and slowly came off Seroxat, my doctor had no objections and I was finally of them for 6 weeks, the withdrawals were horrible but not as bad as the depression I went into once all the Seroxat had gone, that day I found your site, I had also been talking to the chemist in out town(village) and she recommended SJW also I I went to see her bought my first bottle, and have been taking them since I swear I felt better after the first tablet, perhaps the fact I had at last made a positive move, also I had found your site and may be the SJW. had all helped, I don't feel great yet but I feel tons better than I did four days ago. Please forgive me for going on &on but I guess that's how it affects me.
Thanks again for the site Lloyd
