Hi, my name is Anita and I live in a small town in Illinois, USA. Several years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression. Took the medications prescribed, gained weight (which made my more depressed) and then quit. Was doing okay for several years after making some lifestyle changes (relationships, etc.) but I think "it" is back. I lost my job about 3 months ago and at first thought that was all it was but now...I am tired all the time, just want to sleep, and will look at my dirty house and think I really should do that but then don't (I guess it's too overwhelming). This is affecting my relationships. I don't want to gain the weight again (I have lost 40 pounds since last August). I started surfing the web looking for a prescription that doesn't list weight gain as a side effect and found this site...I am hopeful but does this stuff really work?? Even if they say it's clinical????

Hi Anita,

Welcome to the forum.

SJW has been shown to help those with mild to moderate depression. Mixed results for severe depression.

I was suffering from mild to moderate depression before starting SJW more than 3 months ago. In my case it has worked quite well. Just like you I had little interest in any one or any thing. My entire outlook and energy level has changed for the better. I now participate in life ... which I pretty much avoided doing as much as possible prior to SJW.

You may want to check out the FAQ section (green bar at the top). Make sure to give yourself time for SJW to work. You could also do a search for the weight gain. It has had no effect, good or bad, on me. Some people have reported appetite suppression. I wish that were true for me. I have not heard of weight gain being associated with St John's Wort.

Wishing you the healing you are seeking!
