I've previously had bouts of depression and been able to work through by myself through lifestyle change. However this time, I seemed unable to shake it alone, and nervous about the side effects of prescription drugs I turned to St. John's Wort. I've now been taking for just over six weeks - ample time from what Ive read to start feeling the benefits. I would say that I have probably experienced a lightening in my mood, not greatly but a little, and my obsessing about my depression and mindset has decreased. However, Id have to say that my anxiety remains just as bad as before I started taking, and I would hardly say I feel my normal self at all. I wondered what other people's experiences were with SJW after about six weeks, and whether if I wasnt seeing significant changes by this point - am I unlikely to ever do so. Perhaps I should consider switching to another brand or try prescription meds, as my frustration at not being able to be myself and pursue my passions is growing as the depression wears on.

What was the concentration of hyperforin in the brand that you used? Did your dose match that of the most recent studies on SJW? They started at 45 mg hyperforin and after a few weeks they doubled it for non responders...so, was your dose high enough? If you take a low dose you will be experiencing less than the expected results,or no results at all.<br>Peace

I've been taking Holland and Barrett's SJW, which is only standardised for Hypericin, not Hyperforin. I've now ordered some Perika which is due to arrive within the next few days. I'm happy to try it and am going to hold off from the prescription meds for now. Im hoping for better results from the Perika, but the thought of waiting another six weeks for any substantial improvement is frustrating me, especially as I start a new job which is very important to me in a months time. I will let you know how I get on with the Perika, and hopefully I see a stronger change in my depression than currently. Thanks again for your help!
