It has definately improved my mood, I now want to do things, problems don't seem as large, before taking SJW I only wanted to lay around the house, watch TV and sleep. About a week ago I drank some beer (12 in one day), I didn't get as "buzzed as I used to, and sobered up quicker, but after I sobered up, I was just as depressed as I was before I started taking SJW, the depression lasted 3 days, I haven't drank since. I was having very vivid dreams, but that seems to have passed. I can't sleep as long now that I am taking SJW, after about 7 hours a night I am wide awake, but not tired, before taking SJW I could sleep 10 hours a night, but now 7 hours a night is enough. I have this nervous engery for a couple of hours after taking SJW,not an anxiety attack or panic attack(I have had those in the past, long before I started taking SJW,and am taking Ativan to control the anxiety) This energy makes me restless , I find that I have been getting a lot of things done, I get as much done now in a day that used to take me a week. I am glad that I found this web site, and started taking SJW, the benifits have been worth it.

But I do experience sleeping problem and am thinking of switching my dosage to morning/afternoon instead of spreading throughout the day.

(Except for the drinking part - haven't had a "big night out" while taking yet.) Does tend to have a caffiene-like effect for me, too. I don't have a problem with that though. So far I've been amazed at the difference... at first thought it was a placebo effect (blaming my over-analytical brain for tricking me!), but with such a noticeable change, I have to believe it's the SJW working for the positive. Just hoping the effectiveness continues on a long-term basis.

Well I have been taking the Spring Valley brand of SJW for 2 weeks as of yesterday --- and you know -- I don't know if it is a "placebo effect" or not (I sure hope not!!) but I noticed a positive difference right away when I started taking it.

I used to take Effexor XR and like everyone (seemingly) who has taken anti-depressants, I too felt the flat mood, lethargy, weight loss followed by weight gain, etc. I was so ready to get off those but they were very potent and I had to be "weaned off" on a schedule by my doctor which took a month.

I have noticed the following so far: much more energy, much more able to concentrate, able to "wake up" much quicker in the a.m., -- and just generally -- HAPPIER! No black moods descending at times when normally I would expect them to - hooray! :spin:

I am taking quite a high dose of 1500mg of SJW but I was on an equally high dosage of Effexor XR, so I figure to start at the high end. I haven't read anything on these boards about problems with higher dosages, so hopefully that isn't a problem.
I haven't noticed any negative side effects from it so far either -- and I live in Hawai'i, where there is plenty of sunlight! Maybe I'm just being very cautious when I'm out, but no burning so far!

I hope this continues as I am experiencing such great effects from it thus far, and I'm not even at 6 weeks yet! :p

Hi Mochagirl,
great to hear you're finding the sjw helps so quickly. I felt the same, and am so ahppy to find relief from depression without that awful flatness of mood.

Like you, at first I didn't find a problem with sunlight, but about 4 weeks in, it became a bit of an issue. It's winter here (Queensland Australia) but still the sun gets warm and I now feel the burn as much as summer. But using sunscreen everyday solves the problem.
Good luck,
Lisa
