What kind of music/bands do you like to listen to when you need cheering up?

Although I usually listen to classic rock (ok, now you know I'm older ) when I need cheering up I like contemporary christian music, and expecially music available through Vineyard USA.

I listen to Classic Rock too. No shame in that! :freak4:
Dave Matthews Band can always cheer me up. Jack Johnson is another peppy artist that you can't help but smile when he comes on. I'm gonna come off as a total nerd here, but I LOVE the Nutcracker soundtrack. That music always perks me up...even outside of Christmas season.
I like a variety of music--classic rock, rock, pop, dance, country, soft rock, etc. I don't get too much into rap or the hard, thrash type rock anymore though. If I can't understand what someone is saying over the music, then I'm not interested. I love lyrics that are well written, and it seems that these days, there is more crap on the radio than not.

I'm into punk rock myself (I'm almost 30, so I'm not that young), old-school stuff like Social Distortion (which really isn't usually very positive).
If I want to listen to something that helps with the mood, I usually listen to something high-energy like Goldfinger or The Retarded. Of course, no one will know who I'm speaking of, heh.

I find a little bit of Led Zeppelin always does the trick..........especially if accompanied by the odd glass or two of Chardonnay!
...or the Beatles -- 'Revolver' has wonderful, mood-enhancing effects.

Listening to The Cure always cheers me up. Also 80s stuff like Adam And The Ants or Gary Numan. Fleetwood Mac are great for a bit of nostalgia! These days there is some really great music out there, like Imogen Heap (she has an amazing voice). And early 90s music like Nirvana or The Smashing Pumpkins.

Vampire Weekend, Postal Service & Angels and Airwaves has got me through some hard times! Angels is sort of U2-ish and really spiritually uplifting!

I've got a long drive up to the North of Scotland tomorrow, so I shall be taking loads of sounds with me:
'Trust', 'King of America' and 'Punch the Clock' by Elvis Costello plus something by Steely Dan, Paul Weller, Coldplay (trying to get into 'Viva la vida' at the moment) and maybe a bit of prog rock - possibly an old Yes album or two.
....should last me until just past Blackpool on the M6.....

Hey Sheephead, while I love Coldplay too I find their lyrics (like Amsterdam) a little depressing! When I need cheering up I'll put on some old music like The Cure's "just like heaven"! That stuff had aged well.
For anyone who likes indie folk music, I can highly recommend The Nields, Martin Sexton and Ani DiFranco. I saw Martin Sexton play at the International Jazz Festival in Montreal this summer and he was just awesome. I have seem him many times across the U.S. and Canada and he is always great.

I think a good uplifting song is 'The Greatest Man That Ever Lived' by Weezer. I think most of their songs are uplifting!
