This stuff is pretty erratic. One minute I feel great, love everyone, and the next I'm ready to rip off some faces (especially in the mornings). I feel more sensitive, especially to sounds. Does anyone else experience the same problem? Does it level out?

i tried rhodiola rosea in the past. i found it really helped with my fatigue but did make me irritable sometimes and a little over serious. what i found helped was adding 50mg of 5HTP to each of the two doses of rhodiola rosea (100mg of 5HTP a day in total). that really worked for me as i found the 5HTP by itself could make me a little too relaxed in the daytime. not sleepy but a little lacking in motivation to do things like assignments, or do exercise!!!

Ok, I had to stop taking the Rhodiola. It was making my depression much worse. I felt really great when I would first take it, then I would crash hard later and become more depressed than when I first started taking it. Re-dosing would help a little but then I wouldn't be able to sleep. It became a vicious-cycle. I'm a recovering drug addict, and I certainly don't need any of that. I also take a very small dose of Zoloft (12.5mg), so I'm wondering if there is some sort of interaction. I'm pretty sensitive to drugs of any sort, which is kind of ironic seeing as though I used to take mounds of the stuff. :dazed:

bdougher what brand are you using? Sometimes it depends on the brand and how much MG of rhodiola you are taking. Some people cant take more than 300MG of rhodiola rosea because it makes them more anxious. The higher the dosage the more irritable and more energy. The lower the dosage it gives you more of a calm effect.
If you are already an anxious person to begin with they say you should take a lower dosage.
I have anxiety myself at times and I find that RR has helped me not stress about things as much as I used to and it makes me more calm. I get less depressed also. Then again I only take 327 MG of RR. One tablet a day. Thats all I need.
I guess what works for some might not work for others. Id say try another brand or lower dosage and see what happens or just wean off of it.

I was taking the Gaia Herbs brand, 200mg in the morning. It felt like the RR was depleting my Serotonin (or perhaps I was getting too much?). I actually felt calmer, but also somehow irritable and angry at the same time. I've been feeling much better since I stopped taking it. Maybe I'll try again after I'm off the Zoloft. I don't think they play well together.

I was taking planetary herbal full spectrum. Though it doesnt have the recommended 3% rosavins it helps relieve my depression and anxiety.
Oh yes you might be getting too much serotonin. no wonder you are prob feeling very anxious and more depressed.
RR increases your serotonin..so if you are taking zoloft which increases sertonin too that might be too much
Yeah with RR I heard your really not supposed to be taking them with other antidepressants.
Im glad u feel better since u weaned off it though. Some things dont work for others.

I know this is an old message, but this describes how I feel when I DON'T take my 5-HTP each and EVERY day.
Anyone else have these symptoms?

Hi Lonesome journey, I stopped taking the RR and 5 htp cos it didnt seem to be working for me...I had to go to the doctors in the end as I was very depressed and anxious. I hope whatever you choose to do works for you, sometimes we have to be careful with all these herbal remedies as they are powerful in their own right and maybe you need further advice...good luck!

I think the 5-HTP must be working because it is when I STOP taking it or run out that these symptoms begin.
I haven't tried RR yet.
