My mum has been taking SAMe for 8 months now, but has the last 2 months ha been suffering with insomnia. Also she has been having restless legs. I wonder if the SAMe has caused this? She finds same very helpful with her energy and IBS.
Also should i be worried about long term side affects?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe she should try a lower dose? I've found that I'm very very sensitive to pretty much every drug. When I take SAMe, I have to take no more than 50mg, or I won't sleep. But I still benefit from this dose. It stinks that they don't make it in this dosage, I have to cut a 200mg in 1/4ths. It's also alot cheaper that way, and I can sleep.

SAM-e is best taken in the morning on an empty stomach. There is also evidence that SAM-e levels build up in the body so after a while (especially when side-effects appear) you should taper down the dosage you are taking.
