Someone on the SAMe thread mentioned taking Magnesium and how much that helped with depression. Today, in addition to SAMe, I purchased liquid Calcium/Magnesium after doing internet research about its relation in helping with depression. I am not allowed any dairy in my diet, therefore don't get proper calcium, and due to the amount of allergy and sleeping pills I've been taking recently, I'm sure that's decreased what Magnesium I might have had.

Those that have been successful with Magnesium or Calcium/Magnesium, how many mg's are you taking each day? I asked at the store if it would be ok to take both the magnesium and SAMe and she said it was OK as long as I wasn't taking any other medications, which I'm not. I wouldn't take them at the same time, but on the same day, yes. Does anyone think this is not a good idea? I can't find much information online about not taking both.

Calcium is supposed to be taken at night so that absorption is maximised. That's about all I know about the stuff!

I am not a physician but I have been taking Calcium and Magnesium forever and it helped me for quite some time with 'mild' depression. Although I am not sure right now how exactly it works, but the brain needs calcium and magnesium to produce those neurotransmitters that are necessary for a well-functioning brain. So it might even assist SAM-e.

I am currently taking two tables (one in the morning, one in the afternoon), with 500mg Calcium and 250 mg Magnesium each. Two make a recommended daily dosage. When this was the only thing I was taking, I took about twice the daily dosage. I am also a runner, so I lose lots of minerals through sweat. If you sweat a lot, I would up the dosage a bit.

I take magnesium too and 100 mg of calcium, how much do you take? Every mineral, vitamin and amino acid is needed!
