I would like to think that 5-HTP is the answer to our anxiety/depression problems...
I'm just concerned that there might be a lot of people on here trying to promote it, not in the interests of the people but in the interests of their own business... In fact for all I know this site could be just be one big con
That's my biggest fear: that the stuff doesn't work at all, and that I'm reading posts about how it's "a miracle" etc, written by some conman!
The fact that there's very little published research into 5-HTP doesn't help things either. But then pharmaceutical companies have a lot of power don't they?
Sometimes it's difficult to decide who is telling the truth :frown:

Hello Kevbee and welcome to the forum.
I always thought I was sceptical, but you're clearly a notch beyond where I am. Nothing wrong with that, but I suggest that as you evaluate the content of the posts, you pay particular attention to how the message is delivered as well as to what is stated. In most cases it is clear that the responding poster is doing their very best to help. You'll even find disclaimers...such as "I'm not a doctor, but...". There may a few posters that have a vested interest in the use of their products, but most don't stick around as it requires too much effort.
I apologize as I know nothing about 5htp. In my case I've been a visitor here for 1 year, and SJW is helping with my depression. I'm convinced there is a solution that will help everyone. It is my sincere hope that you find yours.
Wishing you the healing you are seeking.

Different substances/alternatives/or even prescriptions ARE miracles to some people. Its individual.
And true enough, if you read here and see the regular posters, you'll probably feel more confident. We all have our stories. For me, I only report whats worked for me in hopes that it can help someone else. Or if someone asks a question that I might hope to help with, then I will.
AS for 5HTP, it isnt for everyone...just as Prozac isnt for everyone. I think this is mostly just a community of people looking for answers, hoping for help. You can generally tell when someone is just "selling" something.

If you have issues with believing or not try it for yourself!
You will see a plateau eventually where it seems as though the 5htp doesn't seem to be there at all. That is where your body is at it's peak and basically cannot accept anymore...the recommendation is then to cut back on the dosage to where you are on 100 to 200 mg every other day or third day, etc.
You will see a difference.
BTW, if you need more info on 5htp or other beneficial type supplements and need another forum to reach out to, try going here...

And click on the forums tab, from there you can check out the supplementations or just do a search for 5htp on the site.
