Ok, I've been on 5-htp for about a week now and am up to 100 mg approx half hour before sleep time.

After I wake up I do notice a clear sense of the mind, not the groggy sense I had about a week ago that was my normal. I started adding a B-complex tab along with 2000 mg of L-Tyrosine after I wake up with a glass of juice to jump start the day.

I know that due to my busy schedule I have not been average more than 6 hours of sleep per day, so I guess that is the reason for not being able to recall any dreams. I just wonder if maybe my dosage is too low, I'm not letting my mind get the needed amount of rest...or what? But I do not recall any dreams?

If you want I will post my sleep and busy times at a later post...

Any thoughts will be helpful...

Ciao!

I've just started taking 5-HTP with SJW (though I'm now confused as to whether this is wise - see other posts). However, I had remarkably lucid dreams after taking 5HTP. I had very clear dream recall, no grogginess, yet I slept right through the night (very unusual for me). I got up really early with no hungover feeling (as with prescription drugs). I'd be interested in how other people's sleep is affected by 5HTP. I've heard a lot about nightmares.. mine certainly wasn't nightmare-ish. Feel free to PM me with more info ! I am fascinated by dreams (did a dissertation on sleep phenomona at Uni)..

I've found that both SAM-e and 5HTP affect my sleep and the quality of my dreams, which as you say are very lucid, vivid and memorable. It's almost like going through therapy - issues and problems, both present and past, come to the surface - perhaps the subconscious is being exposed. The dreams are not nightmares but I often do wake up feeling a bit anxious or sad, having sometimes relived painful experiences through dreaming. Perhaps this changes over time. Now that I've been taking 5htp for a few weeks I don't remember my dreams quite as well as I did in the beginning.

It's funny, I often wake up wondering if I've had a good night's sleep or not. Sometimes I feel like some of the time during the night has been suspended between the waking and sleeping state.

Maybe as mood improves so do the dreams. Here's hoping.
