Hey guys,
I am taking the Flora brand sjw sold here in Canada. I had emailed one of the ladies there and she was amazing. She actually responded to two emails in the same day.
Here is an idea of what the Flora brand consists of and a few answers to my questions. I hope this helps anybody who is thinking of trying it out. I've only been taking it for 5 days now, so honestly I can't say to what degree it is affecting me yet.
The constituents of SJW and their activity is as follows:
Constituents Activity
Amentoflavone...............Anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcerogenic (13' 118-biapigenin)
GABA.............................Sedative
Hyperforin......................anti-bacterial against gram-positive bacteria,
wound-healing and potential anti-carcinogenic
Hypericin........................Antiviral, but also causes photosensitivity
13' 118-biapigenin..........Probably sedative
2-methyl-butenol............Sedative
Proanthocyanidins.........Antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, vasorelaxant
Pseudohypericin............Antiviral
Quercetin.......................In vitro MAO inhibiting activity
Xanthones.....................Antidepressant, antimicrobial, antiviral, cardiotonic, MAO inhibitor
Because of the way the extract is prepared, the following question applies to hypericin as well:
Q: What is the amount of hyperforin in each St. John’s Wort capsule?
A: Hyperforin is the ingredient that has serotonin reuptake inhibitor property. Our Saint John’s wort is prepared according to traditional method and is not standardized, so this is not known.
Aside from the info below, the attached document should give you more information on this supplement.
Q: What is the concentration of St John’s Wort? How much of the St John’s wort is in each capsule?
A: Each Saint John’s wort capsule contains 430 mg of Saint John’s wort oil macerate which is equivalent to 129 mg of Saint John’s wort flowering tops.
Q: Does this mean that it takes 129 mgs of the flowering tops to produce 430 mgs of the oil macerate?
That would seem to me to be a very concentrated product. Yes, it is a fairly concentrated product.
